Space to Reflect, Plan, and Create

What if you could meet with someone over the course of a few months who would listen to understand you, ask questions that prompt new perspectives, help you connect to your natural creativity and resourcefulness, and support a holistic approach to problem solving? If you’re thinking it could transform your workplace well-being, you would be correct.

My name is Myka Kennedy Stephens, and I came into coaching after nine years as a library director and graduate theological school faculty member. As an executive coach, I seek to support professionals who are actively engaged in facilitating the development of a more compassionate and well-informed human society. The industries I have spent most of my career connected to, libraries and theological education, are experiencing a major disruption and the landscape is undergoing dramatic change that will continue for some years. My coaching offers space for you to reflect on these changes, discern next steps, and imagine new possibilities to open.

My personality type balances empathy and reflectiveness with vision and imagination. This shows up in my coaching as engaged presence, active listening, genuine curiosity, deep intuition, and creative exploration. My primary goal is to create a space for your discovery that is safe, free of judgement, and affirming of you as a whole and unique person. You always choose what to bring into our coaching space. I am there to help you identify the solutions you seek and discover your path toward them. I provide you with support, accountability, and affirmation every step along the way.

person walking a labyrinth

A metaphor I use for the coaching journey is walking a labyrinth. This ancient spiritual practice involves walking along a circular path that orbits a center, alternating moving closer and further away from that center before arriving, then returning by the same path to the place where you started. My coaching practice follows a similar rhythmic pattern: circle high above a situation to take in its size, shape, and scale, then move in closer to examine the details and discover meaning, and finally move back out again to reflect on this new learning and insight to see how it fits or changes what is known about the whole.

I am a member of the Association for Coaching, where I am accredited at the Foundation Executive Coach level. I received a practitioner diploma in executive coaching from the Academy of Executive Coaching in London, England. I am also certified in the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, and a member of the Better Bolder Braver community of coaches.
